Dean’s PokéBallz began in December of 2024 because Jason’s “wife was going to kill [him]” if he didn’t start clearing out his card collection. 

“I had taken ‘gotta catch ‘em all’ a little too literally.” 

His Pokémon obsession began when he finally started going through the belongings he inherited from his brother, Will, after Will passed away. Tucked in one of the boxes was a binder of Pokémon cards—one of which was worth $1,500. Jason had been 5 years older than Will and hadn’t understood the draw of Pokémon at the time, but the sorting, organizing, and collecting became incredibly therapeutic on his grief and sobriety journey.

He wanted to create an in-store option for Pokémon enthusiasts that sold cards at reasonable prices, so the average collector could enjoy the experience instead of getting priced out by scalpers. 

In June 2025, JBirds Cards and Co. opened its doors, and the rest is history!
